Guinea pig beds provide your pet with a cozy and warm place to sleep and feel safe in, so while they’re not essential, your cavy will certainly appreciate having one around.
However, not all guinea pig beds are suitable for cavies, whether that’s due to improper sizing, poor-quality and uncomfortable materials, or lack of durability.

This bed for small pets provides your guinea pig with a relaxing and peaceful area to sleep and rest in due to its soft and plush construction.
WowwowMeow Guinea-Pigs Beds
Another top-notch guinea pig bed is this one from WowwowMeow, featuring a plush and warm construction to create a happy home for your pet.
Features
It comes with two clips that can be attached to your guinea pig’s enclosure, turning the bed into a hammock. I really like how simple this pet bed is to clean as this cuts down time spent on cage maintenance.
It’s machine washable so you don’t need to go through the frustration of hand washing it. The bed is available in a variety of colors so you can add some vibrancy to your pet’s enclosure.
Size
As much as I like this pet bed, I did find a couple of issues with it. Firstly, the bed is a bit on the small side, so it might be unsuitable for large cavies.
Secondly, the bed isn’t waterproof, so if your pet urinates in it, it will soak into the material and cause it to smell.
If your pet has a habit of eliminating inside their bed, a fabric guinea pig bed might not be a good option – I’d recommend a hideaway made from wood or plastic.

Pros
- Retains warmth

The bottom is non-slip to prevent it from getting dragged and pushed around. As the pet bed is machine washable, it’s really simple to clean. (Remember to clean it in a laundry bag to stop it getting damaged, though!
I like the bright pink pig design of this item – it would look great in any piggy’s home. But there’s plenty of other sizes and patterns to choose from so you can select one that suits your style.
Size
However, it might be unsuitable for large pets, particularly the smaller sizes. If your pet is a little bigger than normal, they may be unable to fit through the hole, so Iadvise opting for the XL size.

Do Guinea Pigs Need a Bed?
Although not vital, most guinea pigs like beds as they’re comfortable, soft, and provide them with a safe area to hide when they’re stressed or scared.
Can Guinea Pigs Share a Bed?
Every cavy has their own preferences. While guinea pigs can share a bed, some cavies prefer to sleep by themselves.
If you have a pair of cavies, I’d recommend using two beds (and opt for two sets of other things like guinea pig food bowls, toys, guinea water bottles, etc) as this is helpful for preventing territorial issues or aggression.
Do Guinea Pigs Chew On Their Beds?
Cavies will chew on pretty much anything they can get their paws on, so it’s not uncommon for them to munch on their beds.
This tends to occur more frequently if the bed is made from wood or other edible materials.
Fabric beds are less likely to be chewed on, especially if you provide your pet with plenty of toys and things to do to keep them happy and entertained.
TIP
However, if your pet is chewing excessively on their fabric house, you might want to consider replacing it with a wooden hideaway as it can withstand heavy chewing better than soft plush beds.
What Is the Ideal Bed Size for Guinea Pigs?
Factors and Things to Consider
Guinea pig beds come in all shapes and sizes, but for the most part, it’s best to use an oversized bed rather than an undersized one. Opt for beds that are designed specifically for guinea pigs or for large rodents.
Many beds, especially those with hammock shapes, are intended for hamsters, mice, and rats, so they’re often far too tiny for cavies.
Bed Size
Your cavy’s bed should be large enough for them to fit their entire body on without contorting it. For enclosures with multiple piggies, I’d advise using several beds or extra-large ones so there’s enough room for each cavy.
If the bed is enclosed, the entry should be spacious enough for your pet to squeeze through and turn around in.
Where to Place a Guinea Pig Bed?
If your guinea pig lives outside in a hutch, place the bed inside the bedroom area (ideally away from where your pet frequently toilets) in the hutch. Most hutches come with a closed-off section that’s designed to be used as a sleeping quarters.
If your pets live inside or their habitat isn’t separated into sections or levels, put the bed in a corner that’s away from where they drink and use the bathroom.
How Often Should You Clean Your Guinea Pig’s Bed?
This depends on the number of cavies you own and whether your pet urinates or defecates in their bed.
If your cavy eliminates in their bed daily, you’ll need to clean it every day to keep it hygienic and prevent it from smelling.
If your pet doesn’t potty in their bed, clean it around once a week to keep it fresh and free of odors.
Here’s a quick video on cleaning guinea pig beddings
How to Tell If a Guinea Pig Has Bed Bugs
Although bed bugs are more likely to bite humans than animals, that doesn’t mean your cavy is completely immune to an infestation. If your cavy has bed bugs, they will be itchy and often have bites over their body.
You may also be able to spot the bugs (they’re tiny, brown, and oval shaped) on your guinea pig or in their enclosure, particularly in their sleeping quarters.
NOTE
If your pet has bed bugs, throw out any food, bedding, bed, litter, and other things (you can leave their cage!) that your cavy has come into contact with. Give your pet’s habitat a big scrub and clean with pet-safe disinfectant.
Best Ways to Treat Guinea Pigs with Bed Bugs
Bed bugs don’t normally live on guinea pigs long-term, so it’s unlikely you’ll need to treat your pet other than sterilizing their enclosure. If you notice any bugs on your cavy, use a flea comb (ideally, choose one for cats or little pets!) to remove them.
Vacuum and clean beds, towels, blankets frequently to get rid of the bug infestation. Be on the lookout for bed bugs around your house as if they’ve infested your cavy’s home, it’s highly likely that they’ve spread to yours.
NOTE
If your cavy has a lot of bites or suffers from an allergic reaction, don’t hesitate to get them checked out by a vet.
When Is Your Guinea Pig Ready for Bed?
Guinea pigs have strange sleep cycles as they normally nap in short intervals split up throughout the day and night rather than in one long segment. As a result, there’s no real set “bedtime” for cavies – they rest when they feel like it!
I’d suggest getting your cavy set up for bed in the evening, just before you turn in for the night.
FACT
Did you know that guinea pigs sleep for between 30 seconds and 6 minutes at any one time? They also only sleep for around 4 to 6 hours over 24 hours.

I hope you found this guide on the best guinea pig beds helpful. Remember to select a house that is comfortable, sturdy, and the right size for your pet.
